From the Isle Of Skye distillery, Talisker. This very popular Limited Edition whisky was distilled in 1998 and double matured in Jerez Amoroso cask-wood, before being bottled in 2009 as a special release.
Talisker distillery is an Island single malt Scotch whisky distillery based in Carbost, Scotland on the Isle of Skye. The distillery is operated by Diageo and was marketed as part of their Classic Malts series. The brand is sold as a premium whisky.
The malted barley used in production comes from Muir of Ord. Talisker has an unusual feature—swan neck lye pipes. A loop in the pipes takes the vapour from the stills to the worm tubs so some of the alcohol already condenses before it reaches the cooler. It then runs back into the stills and is distilled again. Talisker now has an annual output of three and a half million litres of spirit.
A fairly warm start, with nice smoke and charred wood. There’s some dark chocolate in the background and thick raisins. Red apple. Trademark peppery notes. Hints of tobacco leaves and cherries, even some light heather honey. Perhaps not as sweet and thick as expected. Oranges and pepper, with a slight bitter touch. All-spice. Heathery smoke. Leather and mint. Medium long on the finish, on Seville oranges, black tea and coastal notes. A bit of brown sugar sweetness in the very end.
