Beverage Testing Institute 92 Points Baked, toasty aromas and flavors of toasted coconut and orange oil, peach, tamarind, raspberry, and leather, maple butter, thyme, and and sweet tea with a satiny, flat, dry light-to-medium body and a warming, compelling, medium-length finish with accents of honeycrisp apple, spiced carrot cake, and vanilla butter cream. A bottle of this and some good friends is the perfect day; sweet and savory, this Whiskey just continues to unfold in the glass.
The Essence: A distinctly bold bourbon with rich flavor unleashed from deep inside the barrel wood.
The backstory behind this bottling is that Master Distiller Fred Noe uses a barrel sweating technique to coax out Bourbon that has soaked into barrels during aging; that extract then is combined with newer whiskey. The end result is a lean and austere Bourbon, with brisk espresso, black tea and fig flavors highlighted by black pepper and clove. Seems made for mixing.
