Wine Advocate 92 points - A step up, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Collection Charles Giraud is a smoking wine that’s up with the top wines of the vintage. Made from 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre, it has perfumed kirsch, black raspberry, licorice, dried flowers and roasted meat-like qualities soaring from the glass. As with the Reserve Auguste Favier, this has put on more mid-palate weight, has beautifully sweet fruit, and ripe tannin that emerges on the finish. It can be consumed anytime over the coming 10-12 years.
Features a dark, warm ganache spine that holds the cherry compote, plum sauce and steeped currant fruit together. Smoldering charcoal and tobacco notes line the finish. Shows solid muscle for the vintage. Best from 2015 through 2025.óJ.M.

Domaine de SAINT PREFERT was created nearly a century ago by a tremendous wine connoisseur, Fernand SERRE, who was a pharmacist in Avignon.He discovered one day that a district of Chateauneuf du Pape had the same name as him - Quartier des Serres. A true lover of great wines and a fine apothecary, he purchased nearly 80 hectares of land in this district on the southern slope of the village, with a secret longing to become a vinegrower-winemaker. Fernand SERRE, who had already unlocked the secrets of plants, moved on to unlock those of grapes…He built a cellar and a house in the heart of the vines and quickly learnt vinification. Yeasts, fermentation and temperature control were all part of the learning process. Fernand passed all his skills and know-how down to his son Camille and daughter-in-law Suzanne.An excellent winemaker, Fernand SERRE was a trail blazer for the renown of this appellation. Saint Prefert was one of the first Chateauneuf du Pape estates to sell its wines in bottles in the 1930s and to conquer far-flung markets. With Isabel FERRANDO at the helm since 2003, SAINT PREFERT is today perpetuating the same know-how in love and care for vines and wine.
