Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2008 Montefalco Sagrantino delivers a tight and focused quality of fruit with pressed cherry, plum, earthy tones and dry clay. A rose-like floral note adds a feminine touch. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2020. (Aug 2013)

Antonio Galloni 91 Points - "The 2008 Sagrantino di Montefalco is gorgeous in this vintage. Mocha, espresso, grilled herbs, tobacco and plums are woven together in this full-bodied voluptuous wine. All the elements are very much in the right place. Although not especially varietal, the 2008 boasts considerable depth, richness and power, all in a fairly sexy style for this wine. Plums, mocha, tobacco and incense all add complexity on the finish. The 2008 is decidedly overt and flashy. It is also one of the very best values in Sagrantino."

Colpetrone is one of the most important wine producers in the Montefalco D.O.C.G. area. Sagrantino, the native vine of these area, is one of the most ancient varieties in Italy and the richest in tannin and polyphenolic contents. For that reason, a very particular approach to vinification is required, one that shows off the unique power of the variety without putting at risk balance and elegance. High quality breeding systems are used in the vineyards, permitting yields of 6 tons per hectare, well below those 8 tons prescribed under the rules of production. Sagrantino is produced in three different versions: Montefalco Sagrantino, Passito, a sweet red wine with an old tradition, and the selection ”Gold” that is the result of the most recent developments of this wine. Colpetrone also produces: Montefalco Rosso D.O.C. and Grappa di Montefalco Sagrantino.

Saiagricola is the agricultural investment company of Unipol Insurance Company. This definition is of course correct, but it does not give sufficient merit to all the human resources that contributed to make it a reality and to become what it is today. As a matter of fact, since the beginning (1978), its main richness as been its human resources level; a young dynamic management team leading a group of people, where everyone on his own behalf works with a commitment to the top quality target that the group has decided to follow and achieve. For this reason in just a few decades, Saiagricola has become a prestigious agricultural company as well as a point of reference at national level in several product sectors. The recognition that the Italian and foreign press attributed to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano by Fattoria del Cerro, Brunello di Montalcino by La Poderina, Sagrantino di Montefalco by Colpetrone, Vermentino and Val di Cornia by Monterufoli , Barbera and Moscato d’Asti by Tenuta dell’Arbiola , is the result of the commitment of people employed there. It is this personal commitment to reach common goals that explains the strong connection between Saiagricola and its business partners. All the farms of the group have always been fully reliable and has shown consistent quality in serving consumers. Agriculture is approached at the highest level and every farm becomes qualified through investigation and development of peculiar characteristics. Saiagricola, therefore, may not be considered as a company that just make financial and real estate investments, but it is committed to achieve goal of producing just top quality products. There are not so many national companies that can boast of 5000 ha of land in three different regions, located in the most prestigious areas for the products presented; it is not common to produce ”only” one million bottles of the highest level wine from 270 ha of vineyards. Next pages can only introduce present products creating the desire to discover them better, directly. Saiagricola is happy to welcome those who want to visit the farms of the group and to meet the people who support its success.
