San Giusto a Rentennano Percarlo 2008

The 2008 Percarlo is very young. Dark cherries, smoke, tobacco, incense and licorice burst from the glass in this powerful, virile wine. The 2008 Percarlo is surprisingly big for the vintage, but it also shows some rough edges that will require bottle age to soften. Still, I am impressed with the sheer depth of the fruit and the wine's overall length. Percarlo has a way of developing beautifully in bottle, and I have little doubt that will be the case here as well, given the way the wine comes together after a few hours of air.
