The 2009 boasts exceptional textural finesse and tremendous class. In 2009 Les Pavots includes 22% Cabernet Franc, one of the highest percentages ever. It all works beautifully.

Peter Michael Les Pavots 2005

Description:

The 2005 Les Pavots (3,600 cases of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot) is a sensational wine, with a style that suggests a hypothetical blend of a great St.-Emilion and Pomerol. Chocolatey cassis notes intermixed with incense, licorice, and a hint of black olive are present in this wine. When it hits the palate, it comes across as very Pomerol-like, with lushness, full body, and opulence. The tannins are sweet, the pH high, and the wine gorgeously full, pure, dense, and long. It's a terrific example of non-interventionalist winemaking that has turned out a beautiful, silky-textured wine that should age effortlessly for 15+ years. Like so many 2005s, this wine has really put on weight since I tasted it last year.

Peter Michael Belle Cote Chardonnay 2010

Description:

(Barrel Tasting: 91-94) The 2010 Chardonnay Belle-Cote is a gorgeous, symmetrical wine with no beginning and no end. Sweet floral notes, licorice, mint and lemon are some of the nuances that emerge from this textured, graceful wine. The finish turns intensely aromatic and expressive. Here, too, there is considerable weight in the glass.

Peter Michael La Carriere Chardonnay 2010

Description:

(Barrel Tasting: 90-93) The 2010 Chardonnay La Carriere is a beautifully taut, focused wine laced with lemon, spices and mint. It possesses excellent energy and cut through to the finish. The Carriere shows plenty of focus, but it also has an element of heaviness that is typical of the Chardonnays here in 2010. It will be interesting to see how the wine develops over the coming year. This is Peter Michael's steepest vineyard.

Georges Duboeuf Fleurie Clos Des Quatre Vents 2009

Description:

Displays ripe blackberry and blueberry, ocean breeze, black tea, borage, and bittersweet iris perfume in the nose. Silken and expansive on the palate, this is a little less intriguing but even more generous than the corresponding Fleurie Grand Pre, finishing with soothing yet stimulating length, and likely to be worth following for 3-4 years.

Peter Michael L'Esprit de Pavots Red Wine Knights Valley 2003

Description:

90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Exhibits roasted espresso notes intermixed with smoke, chocolate, cassis, licorice, and dried herbs. It is full-bodied, soft, and meant for consumption.

Georges Duboeuf Morgon 2009

Description:

This firm red offers ripe, juicy black currant and kirsch fruit flavors, with dark chocolate shavings and just a hint of herbes de Provence. There's bright acidity here and lightly chewy tannins throughout, with a smoke-tinged finish.

Description:

Boysenberry and cassis offer a seamless, engagingly, juicy, and less superficially sweet account of themselves than in the corresponding Seigneurie bottling. There is at most only a tiny bit of warmth in the finish, and that is more than offset by lip-smacking persistence of pure berry fruit and a shrimp shell-like sweet, saline savor.
